Team Project
JetSpeed AI

Overview
JetSpeed AI is a tool built for students, incorporating the use of AI into learning. By allowing users to ask questions, do practice quizzes and auto-generate flashcards based on their material learnt in class. It’s like having your teacher whenever you need!
Role: UX/UI Designer
Timeline: September - December 2023
Team: Front and Back-end developer
(Team of 3).
Empathizing With Our Users
Target Audience: Students grade 5+
We ask them what do they all struggle with the most when it comes to learning (ex. exams, studying, memorizing, understanding, etc.)
We saw the opportunity in the market to incorporate AI into learning, not only to feed us answers like ChatGPT but to help enhance our overall learning
We asked them if they would find this useful and the answer was a definite yes
The Design Challenge
How might we build off of OpenSea ChatGPT’s technology to create an environment where students can learn (ask questions, test themselves and learn content)?

What Does Our Competition Look Like?

✅ Flashcards
✅ Quizzes/ Tests
✅ Question and Answer capabilities
Differentiation In The Market
Mindgrasp.AI: focus on automated content summarization and detailed note generation from various types of media (videos, PDFs, documents), along with providing sourced answers.
Wizdrop.AI: has study guides and a social learning component, allowing users to study with friends.
Study Fetch: simpler approach focused on study sets and interactive quizzes.
Brainstorming
What do we love about AI?
It’s personable and will get to know as much as they can in order to provide the answers you need.
What is our goal?
To create something personalized where user’s can submit their own notes and get personalized test questions.
The AI can curate questions based on student weak points in order for them to learn the information they are missing
After multiple brainstorming sessions we came up with three areas in which we would like to prioritize…
LEARN: AI-generated flashcards and organized notes
ASK: Q&A based on submitted text
TEST: Personalized quizzes targeting weak points
Prototyping
I started with simple design layouts and iterated based on user feedback. Close collaboration with developers ensured my designs were feasible. Here are just a few screens from each section…

User Testing
Through user testing the MAIN issues we found…
Dashboard
✅ Users appreciated the familiarity, as it gave them a similar navigation process to Google Drive
Ask
✅ Found the menu to the left useful for choosing documents
❌ Top bar was confusing for some and not visible at some points
Learn
✅ Users liked how you could mark a question correct or incorrect after flipping it
❌ “Decks” were confusing to many and users were unsure of the difference between them. There were too many options to choose from
Test
✅ Liked how results were saved for next time, answers they got wrong were asked in the next test they took
❌ Page range seemed unnecessary to many until explained
Final Outcome
Based on the results from the user testing I made some major adjustments to the prototype (especially the menu). Including a change in our design system as many contrasting colours did not pass the Colour Contrast Test.
Next Steps
1️⃣ Development: Our front and back-end developers are working hard to develop this product within the next 6 months
2️⃣ Marketing: I will be starting to create campaigns for JetSpeedAI in order to create excitement for our launch
3️⃣ Launch: JetSpeedAI will first be launched to family and friends in order to test the product post-development
4️⃣ Updates: We hope to keep adding features as we grow
Key Takeaways
💻 Working with new developers is challenging: Many iterations had to be made to my designs as there were certain features that were not feasible for our team
📐 Balancing freedom and structure: This was the most design freedom I had in terms of deciding the UI and layout of the features which I really liked, though I also really value the structure that comes from working in an already established company.
👩🏽💻 The design process is not always linear: Many iterations were made as user testing was a staple in improving our product before shipping it into development.
